A highlight of this wonderful semester as a graduate student was building a low-back stick chair for the first time. This project offered numerous learning opportunities related to materiality, the craft of physical objects, and multidisciplinary design. From there, I moved into designing, modeling, and building a set that felt like a true passion project: a statement on the benefits of floor sitting. The goal of this project was to encourage people to spend more time on the ground and less time in chairs by creating a chair that sat significantly lower than the standard. I’m excited to carry these ideas forward and see where the next steps lead.
